体育课
The mission of the 体育课 Department is to educate 心s, 培养健康的身体, and promote positive attitudes towards lifetime physical activity, 健身, 运动技能. Each student in our PE program is empowered with the knowledge and skills necessary to make responsible lifestyle choices that directly impact his or her health and well-being. 中学 students have the option to participate in three seasons of traditional competitive sports, showcasing and expanding upon skills learned during physical education classes.
视觉艺术
Walking through the halls of Rodeph Sholom School it is very apparent that art is central to the student experience at the school. From the earliest ages students are taught the joy and appreciation of art, and as skills and forms are introduced as students get older, their love and appreciation for the craft only grows. Our students’ art goes on full display during an Annual Arts Festival in the Spring, that is a highlight of the year for many students, 父母, 和老师.
音乐
音乐 is part of the daily fiber of the Rodeph Sholom School experience. At the youngest ages students experience the joy and wonder of music through Kabbalat Services and other weekly visits from music specialists. As students enter the 基本的部门 and move through 中学 they engage in regular music classes learning to hone vocal and instrumental talents. For students who are interested in pursuing instrumental music beyond the school day, we have a robust after school program with a faculty composed of NYC’s top professional musicians from the symphonic and Broadway communities. The school year culminates with an annual Arts Festival featuring all of our school’s performing ensembles.
戏剧
At Rodeph Sholom 中学, we are committed to nurturing the imaginative 心s of our students while fostering critical and creative thinking. Our 6th-Grade 戏剧 Program serves as an exciting introduction to the world of acting, with a strong focus on collaboration, 沟通, 和即兴演奏. Students embark on a journey of self-discovery as they learn to take risks and harness the fundamental tools of an actor: the body, 心, 和声音.
Through engaging exercises in character development and storytelling, our students gain the unique opportunity to inhabit different perspectives and gain insight into the motivations and experiences of others. This exploration not only enhances their social and emotional intelligence but also sharpens their interpersonal skills. Additionally, our 戏剧 program is open to 8th Grade students as an elective, further enriching their middle school experience.
技术
技术 at Rodeph Sholom School is integrated into classroom experiences in age-appropriate ways that support our curriculum and promote academic skills such as problem-solving, 创造力, 研究, 批判性思维. In keeping with the school’s mission of achrayut, the responsible use of iPads, 电脑, and various online literacies are key components of the technology curriculum. We offer one-to-one devices from 1st – 8th Grade. iPads are introduced in the younger grades and in 3rd Grade students transition to the use of Macbook Airs. 5th Grade students receive a Macbook Air to use throughout their middle school years, both in school and at home.
创建实验室
Our 创建实验室 invites budding “makers” to engage in a range of STEM activities. A hub for student-driven projects, it is a space for students to harness their 创造力 using both high and low-tech materials. Students learn benchmark skills like 3D Design, 项目原型设计, 基本的木工, 编程, and engineering that they can then apply to a variety of co-curricular projects.
